Mission Overview:

⭐️

(Forward) development of new construction chains and application of sustainable building materials

The city centers of Helmond and Eindhoven have a significant urbanization challenge. All new homes that we add will be built in a biobased, circular, and climate-neutral way.

Use fewer new building materials and reuse more materials. Build in phases.
Utilization of biobased building materials from the region and ensuring scaling up.
Improve and scale the market (both supply and demand) for used materials.
Incorporate biobased and circular construction in tenders for new projects.
Adjust laws and regulations where necessary and provide room for experimentation (National and Provincial).

Description

Circle City Eindhoven is a collaboration in the construction sector between the municipality, housing corporations, developers, builders, advisors, and designers. The parties signed the covenant 'Regional Circular Construction Strategy Eindhoven' in 2023. It was agreed that the organizations will apply The New Normal and submit two projects for evaluation with The New Normal. In 2024, we will work with Circle City Eindhoven on topics 1) circular renovation, 2) materials & designs, and 3) circularity & finance. Here, we will contribute knowledge, seek barriers as well as opportunities, and share relevant project experiences.

Residents involved?

No

There are 77 post-its that were stuck by residents on this topic during the climate conferences.

Construction companies learn to deal with those materials.

Looking at what is currently being thrown away. Dutch wants it as insulation material! This is now being burned/exported.

Becoming less dependent on China

Geprinte behuizing

Fewer rules and requirements; shorter procedures for construction.

Making second-hand materials easily accessible. Easily returning/passing on waste products.

More (?) but sturdy constructions

Sustainability requirements in building permits stop -> local building materials

Initiating programs where wood producers have guaranteed sales.

Reuse old and squatted buildings (use what you already have)

Making incorrect building materials more expensive

(Make it) cheaper than regular (sustainable)

Second-hand practice

Madaster. Company for mapping existing building materials and their reusability.

Obligating companies in this regard

Insurance should focus less on total losses and more on repairs.

Investing in skilled forest management (already quite present)

Hemp! (This is also a good material. With regard to climate change compared to, for example, flax!)

Make financially attractive

Place making: to remove concerns/obstacles. For example: temporarily using a parking lot as a meeting place.

Recycling of construction waste

Physical information center for private homeowners energy + circular + biobased

Involve students in this story.

Implementing a CO2 tax on the entire supply chain

Pollution tax. Regeneration as a new byproduct

Climate Mission Helmond & Eindhoven

Eindhoven and Helmond are working together to become climate-neutral faster and smarter. So that Eindhoven and Helmond are now and in the future pleasant places to live, work and recreate. We map out which actions are needed to get there and who has what role in that.
